WordPress Vs Squarespace

The corporate world has recently experienced some extraordinary changes. The extensive rise in entrepreneurship demands online platforms where new businesses can advertise themselves. Most of us are looking for cost-effective, efficient, and flexible website-building software. The two most frequently used options are WordPress and Squarespace. WordPress is an open-space software that can be installed on a web server in order to create and manage content.

Squarespace is “software as a service” (SaaS) that helps in building a website by paying a monthly fee. These two platforms have different sets of benefits and consequences. By measuring the two most important factors–cost and functionality–one can analyze which platform would suit one’s goal and vision.

Considering the Cost

Squarespace is a platform that requires you to pay a monthly fee regularly in order to avail the services. All facilities are included in the monthly package for the website. Once you have paid the fee, facilities such as the domain name, hosting platform, templates, and eCommerce services will be available to you. The personal package costing $16 is restrictive. Building a professional website where you have the space for multiple pages would entail the cost of $26 or $40 per month. On the other hand, WordPress is known to be free. Interestingly, the cost of building a website through WordPress is much higher due to additional platforms that are required.

The server space where the website can be launched will need to be brought. The most common hosting platforms that are used for WordPress are WP Engine and Hotspapa. If you choose to buy additional resources such as E-commerce tools, templates, and plugins, the annual cost would be higher than $140. In that context, Squarespace is cheaper.

Functionality

Though WordPress might cost you more, it promises flexibility and efficiency. WordPress can be customized according to your needs and preferences. By using plugins and apps, you can access thousands of themes, templates, and advertising resources that are innovative and professional. The SEO of WordPress is way better than Squarespace. Tags and categories within WordPress can be relocated and moved. That ensures keeping content that you wish to publicize at the most reachable place. This is a feature that Squarespace does not promise.

Along with that, WordPress gives you a “media-library”. It is a space within the platform where your old data, images, and pages are stored. You can revisit them whenever you want. WordPress also allows an extremely flexible service of Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) format on all sections of your website.

Squarespace allows AMP on blogs only. However, an interesting feature of Squarespace is the “summary block”. Here, you can write a small abstract of your blog and set it at any desired section. The editing system of Squarespace is easier to use than WordPress as it provides a smooth “on-page editing”. The recent Gutenberg editor of WordPress has rectified this issue of WordPress. It ensures enabling editing in both quality and quantity.

Which Option Is Better For Professionals?

WordPress is evidently better for professional uses because of the following reasons:

  1. It allows your website to be as large and flexible as possible as it is based on additional hosting.
  2. It allows interactive customizations through the use of various apps and plugins.
  3. It provides a better Search Engine Optimization.

Squarespace does not require you to know about web development skills. However, the facilities of Squarespace are extremely restrictive. It does not allow space for any customization.
