IHeart Owner Got a Puppy!

Well, it’s not very often we post personal items but why not! We have had a cute little french bulldog running around the house now for the last 4 months. It has been quite an adventure and we would love to share some tips with you on being a pet owner. On top of that, we will highlight The Dog Bite Law Group located in Southern Ca who we know and love and use. They have a great WordPress site that is worth looking into.

Rescuing and adopting dogs feels wonderful, undoubtedly, but it can get dangerous and legally risky. The entire process can be a bit overwhelming when you don’t know where to begin. To help you with your journey to becoming the best pet owner, here are some steps to smoothen your transition.

Prepare for Their Arrival

When a baby is about to arrive, you make sure that your house is babyproof. Likewise, you must make sure that your home is safe for your puppy. Walk around your house to see if there are things that can be harmful to small, curious puppies. If there are items that you don’t want to get chewed, be sure to remove them.

Buy Their Supplies

If you are adopting a puppy, try to bring everything that can make them feel comfortable and safe in your house. They might take some time to get used to it, but it will undoubtedly be easier if you get them some things to feel more secure.

You can do this by buying a dog bed, some treats, pet toys, and even some grooming supplies. However, these things are secondary to your dog’s basic supplies like food, water bowls, leash, and collar.

Introduction to the Family

According to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, you should always introduce your family members before you take your adopted dog to your house.

They suggest you ask your family or any other pets to come outside and introduce them, one by one, to the new family member. Rescued dogs are prone to get anxious and overwhelmed when many unknown people surround them.

Therefore, to help your dog feel less distressed, let him sniff and approach other family members on his own. You should advise your family not to hug or kiss or even go near them until they look comfortable around them.

Adopted dogs can react in a very unpredictable manner if they are put in a stressful environment. This is why you should always ask your family to make them feel comfortable before any hugging and kissing.

Lawyer up!

Getting a lawyer for a puppy may sound absurd, but you’ll soon realize how important this step is!

As mentioned before, rescued or adopted dogs can react adversely when they feel vulnerable. The Animal Rescue League of Boston even suggests that you not have any visitors or house parties in the first few months of his arrival.

Any unknown face can be perceived as a threat that may result in them biting your visitors. This is why unpredictable dogs and emotional puppies have a higher rate of landing you in a court.

Hence, you should always consider hiring a dog bite attorney when you adopt a puppy. The lawsuit can cause you to lose a significant amount of money if you are unaware of the rules and regulations surrounding the dog bite accidents. Thus, we have hired a California dog bite lawyer saving us from many unnecessary damages.
