WordPress 6.1 introduces new design tools and template options

The much awaited WordPress 6.1, titled Misha is here and it comes with a lot more exciting design tools, default theme and template options. Named after Soviet-Norwegian jazz pianist Mikhail “Misha” Alperin, this version marks WordPress’ efforts to improve the design tooling consistency of its core blocks. So with the latest update, the blocks that were missing things like typography, color, and border support are updated wherever possible to match the support similar to that of the other blocks.

The new design tools and its controls are more intuitively presented so that the users can easily get an idea of the final result while they customize the blocks.

Further, WordPress 6.1 has a whole load of new template designs and the template opinions can now be edited as per your needs. With the new updates, users can seamlessly create and edit page-specific templates, user-selectable custom templates for all post types, custom post type and post-specific templates, and taxonomy-specific templates for categories or tags.

The new version of WordPress also comes with the content-locking capabilities. Within one click, the block locking property can be easily applied to all other inner blocks.this property is also applicable to containing blocks like Cover blocks, group blocks and column blocks.

The menu management option also got a full makeover with the WordPress 6.1.the menu controls has a separate place in the block settings. The navigation block now has a new fallback option and this is available when the block isn’t pre-populated with the new inner blocks. If the navigation menu is empty, then the fallback option will display a list of the currently available pages with the help of the Page List block.

What’s the TT3 theme

The much anticipated part of the new WordPress release was the new Twenty Twenty-Three (TT3) default theme and the best part is it comes with 10 different style variations. The reason why this theme is different is because it comes with a set of different style variations which means the user doesn’t have to make a theme from scratch. The base version of this theme features striped black version of the 2022 along with 10 variations contributed by the WordPress community.

The theme comes as accessibility-ready and further, it draws attention to the new design tools released along with it. It provides a lot of room for customization and the user can choose from a very rich to minimal color palette and even play around with different typography options.

The fluid typography is another prominent feature of WordPress 6.1. With this feature, the site authors can now decide upon the font sizes which will automatically change and adjust as per the small to large viewports.

The feature can be activated by typing in typography.fluid and setting it to true in theme.json and then adding fluid to each of the settings.typography.fontSizes with min and max values as per the user’s choice.
