NC Eligible To Receive Up To $109 Million For Electric Car Charging Stations

The federal government is all set to give the states a green signal to improve the infrastructure related to electric vehicles services. The plan is to create a strong nationwide network of electric car charging stations by adding new and upgraded stations at a distance of 50 miles apart along all the interstate highways.

The government announced this formula funding program earlier this month as part of the Biden administration’s efforts to encourage the adoption of these zero-emission vehicles over the country.

As per this program, the state of North Carolina can receive an amount of up to $109 million. This amount can be granted to the state to launch projects aiming to improve the electric vehicle charging infrastructure, including the establishment of new charging stations.

At present, North Carolina has around 1542 miles of pending and ready electric vehicle corridor. And with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the additional discretionary funding provided under it, the state is eligible to receive the required monetary assistance that would enable it to increase the number of EV chargers on its highways significantly.

On Thursday, 10th February, the federal government announced that $5 billion in federal funds would be made available to the states under the infrastructure law of President Joe Biden. The law is based on the vision of enabling seamless climate-friendly travel via electric vehicles from coast to coast of the country.

According to Pete Buttigieg, the US Transportation Secretary, the modern automotive era was brought in by America a century ago, and now, the electric vehicle revolution must be led by the country too. The President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help the country achieve this aim. A close collaboration between the states and the labor and private sectors with enable the deployment of a nationwide network that would make EV charging stations more accessible to the population.

Electric vehicles have been highly popular in North Carolina and most other states in the US. But, while the owners were proud to own an electric car, they were still at a disadvantage compared to standard car owners. While charging stations were located on many major roads and highways, it was a different case if one wanted to drive through a less popular route. In such cases, finding a place to charge would prove complicated.

Therefore, electric car owners are highly optimistic regarding the Federal Government’s decision to provide funding for more electric vehicle charging stations. This measure is sure to not only make commuting easier for current owners but also boost further sales of climate-friendly electric vehicles.

But before North Carolina (or any other state for that matter) receives the funding, they would have to share the plans of how they intend to use the amount to improve the electric vehicle infrastructure in the state.

Summing Up

While the US government is all set to implement measures to promote a climate-friendly approach by encouraging people to go for electric cars, there’s another issue that also needs some looking into.

Several cities in North Carolina, including Greensboro, witness many traffic crashes every year, many of them leading to injuries or even fatalities. Therefore, the state needs to implement further measures to ensure traffic safety, especially on the more congested roads and highways.

If you have been unfortunate enough to get into a car crash in Greensboro or any other city of North Carolina, you are eligible to get compensation from the party at fault. Make sure to hire the services of a reputed Greensboro Car Accident Attorney, as they can help negotiate with the other party to get you the compensation amount you deserve.
